Chemex employs all of the chemically correct methods for brewing. It's hourglass shaped flask is made entirely of glass, a chemically inert material that does not absorb odors or chemical residues.  The Chemex® has no moving parts and will work forever, unless it is dropped or in some other way demolished.

Filter papers purchased separately.

5 stars The effort is worth it! Written by Rob
Sure, this is more work than just throwing your grinds in a french press/cafetiere but the resultant coffee is way better! There's plenty of good brewing advice for the Chemex out there on the Net ( Hasbean has a particularly good one http://www.hasblog.co.uk/brewing-guide-the-chemex ) - and once you get your bean grind down the right size, you can make cup of cup of great tasting coffee. No grit in your cup (or your mouth) and the flavours come out in much more refined and obvious fashion. This is very worthwhile move for anyone who want to take their coffee tasting to the next level. (Cheaper than a decent espresso machine too!) :-)

5 stars Best? Written by Youri Limini Coffee
Chemex has to be one of my favourite brewing methods beside syphon. Worth a try at least.

Hello - does this maker need filters or is the whole point that it's glass so should create the purest taste?

Hi RIckie,

yes you will need to use paper filters (or a metal cone if you prefer, see Coava Kone) which are available on our website.

Hope this will help.
