If you enjoy the simple pleasures in life, you might opt for something like the Fellow Stagg X Pour-Over Set which is a big hit with our customers. But what’s making coffee enthusiasts so excited about using the pour-over method for their home coffee experience?

What’s so great about pour-over coffee?

Home coffee preparation technology has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years and there are some incredible electric coffee makers and espresso machines on the market. However, some purists believe that preparing coffee with the pour-over method gives a level of control and nuance that an electrical machine can’t quite deliver, adjusting volume, grind size, and water pour speed to their precise and bespoke requirements.

What Is the best coffee grind size for pour-over coffee?

There is a wide spectrum of coffee grind options, from extra-coarse, coarse and medium-coarse, to medium, medium-fine, fine and extra-fine, and many gradients in between. Coarse ground coffee has a texture and particle size similar to sea salt or peppercorns, while a medium grind is more like sand in consistency. Fine grinds can range from a texture like table salt to one as soft as flour.

For the tastiest and most aromatic pour-over coffee, a medium grind, with that signature sand-like texture, is a good place to start. If you find that you’re still not getting the flavour intensity you’re looking for, you can go up to a medium-fine grind, about the consistency of table salt. Check the instructions of your grinder to discover the perfect settings.
