A superb piece of coffee equipment, the AeroPress is a one-cup brewer, which is super convenient if everyone else in your house wants a different type of brew. It's also a great manual option that you can easily take with you on the go. The AeroPress has a cylindrical chamber, and a plunger with an airtight silicone seal. It operates in a similar way to a syringe. Ground coffee and water are steeped inside, then as you plunge down through the chamber, your coffee is forced through a filter. It is a fantastic immersion brew, perfect for using at home or on the move.
The AeroPress Delivers Cold Brew Too
TheAeroPress uses high-pressure extraction to brew a deliciously clean cup of coffee with an almost silky texture. It's super easy to use if you are just getting into specialty coffee and offers versatility for coffee experts, including the Puck Puck, which turns your AeroPress into a Cold Coffee Brew tower! Place the Puck Puck on top of your AeroPress, fill it with water and ice, and let gravity work its magic. Hey presto, a refreshing cold brew coffee!
Want a more intense espresso-like brew out of your AeroPress? The Fellow Prismois a great add-on. This handy accessory unlocks new levels of flavour to enhance your brewing experience.
Just attach it to the bottom of your AeroPress, and it will build up pressure as you press down, giving a more intense brew, much more like espresso.
The AeroPress plunger pushes trapped air down into the chamber and forces the water over the coffee into your coffee mug. The whole process typically takes around 45 seconds, with the actual press time being about 20 seconds.
Choosing Your Coffee Bean
It is vital to pick the right coffee for brewing with an AeroPress, just like with any other brew method. Ideally, you want to go for specialty beans that have been lightly roasted for filter coffee. Lightly roasted coffee will have the natural flavours you want for an optimum AeroPress brew.
The AeroPress works at its best when coffee is ground like fine sand. So, ideally you want it courser than espresso, but finer than pour-over.
Travelling with AeroPress
Find yourself travelling and don't want to compromise on the quality of your brew? Many travellers find a great bit of kit for excellent coffee on the road will include an AeroPress, a hand grinder and your favourite bag of coffee.
Our recommendation for a hand grinder for AeroPress would be the Rhino Small Hand Grinder, offering impeccable grind consistency wherever your adventures take you. This grinder also comes with a handy AeroPress adapter that allows you to grind straight into the chamber of your AeroPress. And then, once done, you place the grinder into the empty cavity of the AeroPress for a compact, neat travel kit.
If you prefer the convenience of electricity, we'd recommend the Baratza Encore grinder. The Encore will deliver the perfect grind for AeroPress time after time. In addition, it has conical burrs, which are an excellent match for the AeroPress.
