Join the cold brew revolution
Cold brew coffee is the perfect way to enjoy that freshly ground coffee zing in a smooth, chilled drink. It’s ideal for sipping in the warmer months.
Simply put, cold brew coffee does exactly what it says on the tin – it delivers a coffee that’s brewed with cold water instead of the usual hot water. This gives a very refreshing and sweet-flavoured result.
You might think that these iced coffees are only made by coffee shop baristas, but you can create your own delicious, cool drink at home using simple methods and affordable equipment.
How does the cold brew method work?
There are various ways to create cold brew coffee but generally, it’s made by brewing ground coffee in cold water for several hours. The Toddy Home Cold Brew System allows you to prepare and store a large batch of iced coffee in your fridge at home.
AeroPress fans can turn their trusty and portable one-cup coffee brewer into a cold brew drip system using the brilliant Puck Puck gadget. This clever add-on harnesses the power of gravity to draw iced water through coffee grounds, and it’s ideal for getting that fresh chilled coffee hit on the go.
Grinding Coffee for Cold Brew
The ideal grind size for cold brew is somewhere between coarse and medium ground coffee. You’re looking for a fairly chunky grind result that feels like coarse sea salt in your hand. This gives enough surface area for the coffee to steep gently and slowly in the cold water, giving a sweet, subtle flavour and a smooth result.
Always freshly grind your beans, using just the amount you need for the volume of coffee and flavour strength you’re seeking to achieve. This ensures you get the most aromatic and flavourful cold brew coffee.
Then leave your brew to steep, and simply serve and enjoy.
