Description

Filtropa White Size 4 Coffee Filter Papers are precision-made in the Netherlands from 100% cellulose, bonded without glues or chemicals, and whitened using a total chlorine-free (TCF) oxygen process — delivering a reliably neutral, clean-tasting filter for everyday home brewing and café use.

Paper Quality & Materials

Filtropa filters are made from a proprietary blend of wood pulp and cellulose fibres with no bonding agents, no glues, and no chemical residues. The paper is certified dioxin-free and FDA-approved for food safety. Oxygen bleaching removes colour without the chlorine compounds found in standard white filters, meaning nothing from the paper itself interferes with the flavour of your coffee. The high-density weave allows water to flow evenly through the coffee bed while keeping all grounds and fine particles out of the cup.

Flavour Clarity

The neutral, taste-free paper is particularly well suited to specialty and single-origin coffees where brightness, clarity, and aromatic complexity are the goal. Unlike unbleached brown filters — which can carry a papery or cardboard note — Filtropa's oxygen-bleached paper lets the coffee speak for itself. A quick rinse before brewing is recommended to help the filter seat properly and fully eliminate any residual paper flavour.

Compatibility

Size 4 cone filters are the most widely used filter format and fit a broad range of popular brewers. Compatible drippers and machines include the Moccamaster (all 1L and 1.25L models), Wilfa Classic+ and Wilfa Precision, Melitta cone drippers, Bonavita brewers, Kalita cone drippers, Clever Dripper (large), Kinto SCS, Tiamo, and most other V-shape Size 4 drippers and automatic filter coffee machines.

Frequently Asked Questions

What brewers are Filtropa Size 4 filters compatible with? Filtropa Size 4 filters are compatible with any brewer that uses a Size 4 cone-shaped filter. This includes the Moccamaster (all 1L and 1.25L models), Wilfa Classic+ and Precision brewers, Melitta cone drippers, Bonavita automatic brewers, Kalita cone drippers, the large Clever Dripper, and most other V-shape Size 4 manual drippers and automatic filter coffee machines. If your machine uses a cone-shaped filter and you are unsure of the size, Size 4 is the most common format for 4–12 cup brewers.

Are Filtropa filters bleached? Yes, but using a total chlorine-free (TCF) oxygen process — not the chlorine-based bleaching used in most standard white filters. TCF bleaching whitens the paper without leaving chemical residues, meaning there is no risk of chlorine compounds affecting the taste of your coffee. The process is also more environmentally friendly than conventional bleaching methods.

Do Filtropa filters contain glue or bonding agents? No. Filtropa filters are bonded entirely without glues, chemicals, or adhesives. The 100% cellulose paper construction is certified dioxin-free and FDA food-safe, making them one of the cleaner filter options available in terms of material purity.

Do Filtropa filters need to be pre-wetted? A quick rinse with hot water before brewing is recommended. This helps the filter seat flush against the dripper walls, preventing bypass, and removes any residual paper flavour from the surface of the paper. For the majority of brewers, a brief rinse is enough — discard the rinse water, add your grounds, and brew as normal.

What is the difference between white and brown (unbleached) coffee filters? White filters are bleached to remove the natural brown colour of the paper, while unbleached brown filters retain it. Brown filters can carry a papery or cardboard taste that may be detectable in lighter, more delicate coffees — which is why pre-wetting is strongly recommended when using them. White filters, particularly TCF oxygen-bleached options like Filtropa, are more flavour-neutral and are generally preferred for specialty and single-origin coffees where clarity and brightness matter.
