It’s that time of year again… Cold brew season is well and truly upon us - and when we say cold brew - we don’t mean iced coffee.

Seeing people walking along with cups filled with clinking ice cubes doesn’t mean they’re sipping on a cold brew – it’s likely iced coffee – and these are not the same.

But what’s the difference between these two similar yet completely different drinks?

The brewing process and flavour of the two are very different. While your typical iced coffee is brewed with hot water and then cooled, cold brew is steeped over several hours using cold water from the get-go.

Why does this matter?

Different temperatures create different chemical reactions – which in turn produce different flavours. Heat can create a more bitter taste when applied to coffee grounds - so your cold brew will likely taste sweeter and smoother as a result of keeping it cool.

Want to try it for yourself?
