A puck screen sits between your coffee puck and the group head shower screen when pulling an espresso shot. It acts as a barrier that distributes water evenly across the entire surface of the puck, promoting more uniform extraction and reducing channelling — where water finds the path of least resistance through the puck rather than extracting evenly. The result is a more consistent, balanced shot with better clarity and a cleaner group head after each pull.

With a puck screen in place, spent coffee grounds and oils transfer onto the screen rather than directly onto the shower screen and group head dispersion block. After each shot, the puck screen comes out with the portafilter, keeping your group head significantly cleaner between backflushes.
